This examination includes an interview with Dr. Shuffield, a visual exam of your teeth, gums, and jaws. At this time we will also evaluate all of the supporting structures of your teeth (gum tissue and bone). An oral cancer screening exam and evaluation of the jaw joints and muscles will be done. Necessary x-rays and photographs will be taken to understand each patients needs.
What is Cerec? Cerec is a Chairside Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics made of enamel-like material. Translated, it means that Dr. Shuffield can restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.
People who clench and grind their teeth can sometimes develop a serious problem with their jaw, which left untreated, can adversely affect the teeth, gums and bone structures of the mouth.
One of the most common jaw disorders is related to a problem with the temporomandibular joint, the joint that connects your lower jaw to your skull, and allows your upper and lower jaw to open and close and facilitates chewing and speaking. This area is one of Dr. Shuffield's passions and he has received specialized training to assist our patients in managing this issue.
We will work with an implant specialist to create an implant (artificial tooth root) for a missing single tooth, missing multiple teeth, or to stabilize a removable appliance (denture).
Our teeth whitening system is one that you take home with you for controlled results within two weeks. This system involves customized trays that you can use for a long time in conjunction with whitening gel that is specific to your teeth.
Many times teeth with large fillings break down over time under chewing force. Many times there is not enough tooth structure to hold another filling or the tooth is cracked. In these cases, a crown (or cap) made of enamel- like material is used to restore a tooth back to a great appearance and proper biting function.
Filings: Composite Resin
Tooth-colored fillings that match the color of your teeth.
Gum Therapy Treatment
We believe you should have a standard cleaning at least twice a year. Many patients that have an increase in susceptibility to periodontal disease may require more frequent hygiene visits to maintain proper oral health. Plaque and calculus can accumulate on your teeth and cause gum and bone infection. This therapy is the removal of these deposits to allow healing and health of the teeth's supporting structures.
Removable Dental Prosthesis
We work with our patients and their specific needs in this area to help improve function and appearance.
We use our laser when permissible to remove decay within a tooth and prepare the surrounding enamel for receipt of the filling without having to numb our patients. Dr. Shuffield also uses our laser in certain situations for periodontal gum disease as well as to minimize bleeding and swelling during soft tissue treatments. Lasers can also be used to remove bacteria during certain root canal procedures.
